Laura Theiss is one of the most exciting knitwear designers on the fashion scene.
Theiss comes from a family of skilled knitters and crocheters. She started knitting when she was a child and since then she never stopped.
After graduating from Central St Martins, in London, Theiss developed a bold signature style, recreating in a modern key traditional crochet and knitting stitches, designing fantastically original pieces for her own label and for international clients, and bringing knitwear into the future. Her silhouettes and shapes are indeed directly inspired by stories of brave and empowered women living in a not so distant future.
Fantasy combines in Theiss' designs with technique: since founding her label in 2010, the designer produced acclaimed collections shown in London and Paris while constantly researching the world of yarns and stitches, coming up with three-dimensional patterns, highly contrasting textures, striking volumes, and unusual colour palettes.
In the last few years Theiss has diversified her practice working as a costume designer, creating pieces for ballet performances by Irish choreographer Marguerite Donlon and currently working on a new piece by Belgian choreographer Stijn Celis, staged at the Saarbrücken's Opera House and State Theatre.
In 2018 Theiss created a Capsule Collection in collaboration with Italian Dyloan Studio and developed with the Bond Factory. The collection - a mix of traditional crocheting and knitting with high-tech processes such as thermowelding, taping, press bonding and laser cutting - was showcased at the prestigious Florence-based yarn fair Pitti Filati.
Laura Theiss currently produces her own collections showcasing them in London and Paris and dividing her time between Germany and the UK.
